Land Stewardship in Mallorca…
The biodiversity and cultural landscape of Mallorca are of great ecological, esthetical and economical value. These values represent irreplaceable elements of the natural and cultural heritage of the archipelago of the Baleares, the Mediterranean region, Europe and humanity in general.
Nowadays there exists a clear necessity and willingness to protect the environment and its related traditional rural activities like agriculture and pastoralism, more profoundly settled in the territory then it is conventional tourism. The ¨Land Stewardship and Sustainable Ecotourism in the Natura 2000 Network¨ program of the BVCF and FVSM has as main objective to balance tourism with the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage as sustainable source of wealth, creation of employment and the wellbeing of the rural environment.
To achieve its objective the Program establishes an innovative approach with a different focus and treatment that opens new horizons for the future of tourism and conservation dynamics in Mallorca. The approach directly involves, motivates and compromises all relevant layers of actors that participate in the ecotourism sector (administrations, businesses, land owners NGOs, etc.). With a series of Land Stewardship agreements and agreements of collaboration in combination with the operational market tool ¨ProNature Travel¨, the Program enhances the dynamics of the initiatives from a unique business perspective, at any moment aiming to contribute to its social and environmental objectives.
