History and Facilities

The Mediterranean Wildlife Conservation Centre is located at the Son Pons estate, in the municipality of Campanet in Majorca. Since 2003 it houses the headquarters of the Black Vulture Conservation Foundation (BVCF), the Mediterranean Wildlife Conservation Foundation (FVSM) and ProNature Travel (since 2008).

The centre operates as a transference centre that receives vultures from recovery centres supported by collaboration with several Autonomous Communities of Spain. The vultures are distributed all around Europe to projects in order to reinforce or reintroduce vulture populations in areas where the species formerly went extinct or where they presently are in danger of extinction.

After their physical examination and preparation the animals are transported to programs such as the Reintroduction Program of the Black Vulture in France, projects that form part of the Balkan Vulture Action Plan or other related projects that the BVCF caries out around Europe.

Of course the centre is well equipped with all facilities needed for the recuperation and observation of vulture during the stay in our centre. A team of volunteers that participate in the European Voluntary Service (EVS) supports the professional staff in maintaining the property and care for the animals.
