Our Philosophy

ProNature Travel believes in the potential that Mallorca has to balance the conservation of its natural and cultural heritage with sustainable ecotourism during the upcoming years.

We take full responsibility to reinvest benefits obtained by ProNature Travel back into local projects of nature conservation and rural development by means of its founding organisations the Black Vulture Conservation Foundation and the Mediterranean Wildlife Conservation Foundation.

In addition, to initiate new products making use of touristic resources already established in the territory, directly benefiting the local population.

The tourism that we vision is attractive, competitive, economical viable and respects nature, landscape and the rural environment.

Ecotourism & Conservation

Ecotourism, in its full meaning, implies minimizing the impact of tourists in protected areas and expanding the experience and appreciation of nature and culture, whilst stimulating local socioeconomic development of the destination.

"Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment and improves the well-being of local people." (TIES, 1990)

Conservation in the context in which we work implies the protection of natural resources and landscapes, including as much the biodiversity of plant and animal species as the historical, architectural and cultural heritage.

In the case of Mallorca it is clear that the conventional tourism, that had its boom in the seventies, was not sustainable and resulted in ecological instability provoking an increased impact on the natural resources meanwhile neglecting the basic need for the rural population. Nevertheless, the island still offers a spacious rural landscape with a wealth of natural treasures of great importance for nature conservation such as the Serra de Tramuntana, the archipelago of Cabrera and the wetlands of s´Albufera. For this relatively small island, its biodiversity is enormous. Mallorca harbours over 43 endemic plant species (over 120 on the Balearic islands) and the last island population of Black vultures in the world.

Little by little, the environmental awareness of the local government, the tourism sector and the society as a whole has increase over the past fifteen years. Fortunately, the concept of tourism in Mallorca has experienced several positive changes since than. The popularity of the rural establishments, evolution of walking and cycling holidays and a more environmental aware and highly demanding visitors all together converts Mallorca in an, every day, greener destination with capacity to be truly sustainable.
